Counselling Therapy for Children & Young People

Children and young people experience big feelings, complex situations, and overwhelming moments just like adults do -  but they often don’t yet have the words, confidence, or emotional tools to express what’s happening inside.

Child Therapy & Teenage Counselling with Chambers of Change, offers children and young people a safe, steady space to explore their emotions, build resilience, and make sense of their world in a way that feels natural, gentle, and developmentally appropriate.

My approach is child‑centred, creative, and grounded in years of experience supporting young people through emotional, behavioural, relational, and life‑based challenges.

Why Children and Young People Come to Therapy

Young people seek support for many reasons. They might be:

  • Struggling with anxiety, worry, or panic
  • Feeling low, withdrawn, or overwhelmed
  • Experiencing anger, frustration, or emotional outbursts
  • Navigating friendship or relationship difficulties
  • Coping with family changes, separation, or conflict
  • Processing grief or loss
  • Managing school‑based stress or pressure
  • Feeling confused about their identity or place in the world
  • Recovering from trauma or difficult experiences
  • Struggling with confidence, self‑esteem, or self‑expression

Therapy gives them a space where they can be honest, expressive, and supported -  without fear of judgement.

 Creative, Flexible, Developmentally Attuned Approach

Children and teenagers communicate in many different ways -  through words, yes, but also through play, movement, creativity, metaphor, and imagination. Because of this, every session is tailored to their ever‑changing needs.

This means that one week we might be:

  • sitting face‑to‑face and talking
  • drawing, painting, or building something together
  • exploring a story or metaphor
  • using toys, props, or creative materials

And the next week we might be:

  • playing catch with a ball
  • using movement or rhythm
  • grounding through sensory activities
  • exploring imaginative worlds
  • working online in ways that feel safe and engaging

Whether sessions are in person or online, we can experiment with different ways of connecting -  gently reducing the scariness of opening up. Our imagination is the only limit.

The goal is never to force a child to “talk about it” - the goal is to create a space where expression becomes possible in whatever form feels right for them.

 My Approach With Young People

I work in a way that is:

  • Trauma‑informed - safety, pacing, and emotional regulation come first
  • Child‑centred - their voice, autonomy, and comfort guide the process
  • Creative - using imagination, play, and story when helpful
  • Relational - building trust through warmth, consistency, and attunement
  • System‑aware - understanding the pressures of school, family, and wider systems
  • Flexible - adapting sessions to the child’s age, needs, and personality

Young people deserve a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood. That’s what I aim to offer.
